Sleep Apnea – What Motor Carriers Need to Know

Event Date: May 22, 2015

Do you know what sleep apnea is?  Are you aware of the many ways in which sleep apnea, if left untreated, can negatively impact a motor carrier’s costs?  Are you also aware of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s status concerning rulemaking and how this might impact the trucking industry?

No one knows exactly how many truckers have Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), but current estimates show that 30% of the driver population suffers from this disorder to some degree. Because sleep apnea most often strikes middle-aged, overweight men — common demographics of professional truck drivers — it is a health and safety condition with which the industry must better understand. Join Safety Management Services Company on May 22, 2015, to learn more about this critical driver health issue.

Learning Objectives:

  • Determine how Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) disrupts sleep
  • Discover who is most at risk
  • Learn how OSA is diagnosed and treated
  • Review FMCSA clarification and guidance for medical examiners
