8:30 AM | 2019 Benefit Trends
Presented by Nicole Pfeiffer, Vice President, and Jacob Syndergaard, Benefits Consultant, Cottingham & Butler
Recruiting top talent has continued to be increasingly difficult over the last five years and competition is high. Annually, the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) conducts a survey of U.S. employers to gather information on employee benefit programs. The findings report, which we will cover in this session, examines the prevalence of benefits over the past five years to track trends.
9:15 AM | Changes to the Modern Workforce and Employee Engagement
Presented by Patrick Glynn, Senior Consultant, and Jenna Bidwell, Consultant, Carlson Dettmann Consulting
Engagement is more than just a catchy phrase or passing fad. There are significant shifts occurring in the workforce, and changing demographics and expectations are impacting the way we handle employee recruitment, retention, and engagement. To stay competitive and relevant in the marketplace, employers are being forced to rethink many aspects of the employment relationship. This presentation will explore the shifts in employee expectations and share actionable solutions to overcoming these common challenges.
10:15 AM | Benefit Captives — A More Stable Way to Manage Your Risk
Presented by Stephen Hansen, Regional Vice President, Pareto Captive
If your company is tired of getting fully insured increases with little data, frustrated by the volatility of self-funding, and wants to join a group of like-minded employers working to control their healthcare costs, this presentation is for you. Pareto Captive will explain the main advantages self-funding has compared to fully insured plans, and the numerous cost containment capabilities and vendors that help employers reduce the cost of healthcare as part of a captive program.
11:00 AM | Better Benefits at a Lower Cost — Key Principles to Follow

12:15 PM | Keynote – Adapting to Change
Presented by Pepper Burruss, Retired Director of Sports Medicine Administration, Green Bay Packers
After a 42-season career with the NFL, Burruss retired as Director of Sports Medicine Administration for the Green Bay Packers on July 1, 2019. He previously held roles as Head Athletic Trainer and Physical Therapist for the Green Bay Packers, and Assistant Athletic Trainer for the New York Jets. Over the years, Burruss was often forced to consider where the team was, where they were currently, and where they were going. While he viewed change through the lens of sport medicine, his takeaways apply to any industry.
