2019 Transportation Safety Webinar: Ergonomics In Trucking
Event Date: May 16, 2019
Commercial drivers experience long work hours, varied weather conditions, and relentless road vibration. The continual assault on their bodies from driving makes it more likely that they will be hurt, fatigued, or to look for another line of work. Consider that, on average, just one back or neck injury can cost an average of $84,000 to $168,000 (direct and indirect costs), not including lost revenues if a motor carrier now has an empty truck.
Also, consider that the annualized turnover within the long-haul industry continues year after year to average close to 100%, dramatically affecting recruiting and training costs, productivity, and safety.
Learning objectives include:
- What does the term “ergonomics” actually mean?
- Safe ways to perform various trucking duties
- How to evaluate whether ergonomic cab designs will impact a carrier’s worker injury losses
- How proactively addressing driver ergonomic challenges can assist in retaining drivers
